Chronicles of San Francisco
Considered as one of the most dynamic State in the United States, and one of the most connected place in the world, California is the real Heaven of Digital Business. Located on the West Coast of Uncle Sam’s country, California is famous for several things: natural elements such as Yosemite National Park, which offers a unique experience to its visitors, famous places with Hollywood, a district in Los Angeles where actors and singers are living, a great ocean coast and of course big companies close to San Francisco.
The Golden State is really appreciated and worldwide known, because of this diversity of elements which give to this beautiful State something unique, and a real dynamism.
San Francisco area : a leading city in California
Once you quit the subway station, San Francisco is taking you. What is interesting is the mixity of people, coming from all over the world, talented people who have knowledge and skills to bring to companies evolving here. At the heart of the city, people are walking fast, with a coffee bought in Starbucks of Philz, going to the office to start a new day. These offices are in open space, to ease communication and team working for projects, and located in high skyscrapers and buildings. The highest tower is the Salesforce offices, with a 326.136 meters high, situated in the Financial District.
I could see it from the University where I was studying, that was truly impressive ! At the same time, students are at the University. In California, the most prestigious and famous Universities are Berkeley, in the North of San Francisco and Stanford, on the heart of Silicon Valley. Studying there is very expensive, but graduated students are guaranteed to get a job in the following months. The United States of America are ahead in terms of Digital Business compared to other countries, because they have a lot of facilities : material, skills and funds to do that. A lot of events are organized especially in California and San Francisco to help companies to raise funds for their researches.
This is one of the reasons why worldwide entrepreneurs are trying to live “The American Dream” by shaping their project there : more than 60 french startups are located in San Francisco (1), in different sectors of activity : aviation, digital, health or communication.
Californian companies and worldwide development
Who does not know the Silicon Valley ? Radiant at an international scale, this area close to San Francisco is the nest of the biggest companies in the world. It is more than likely that you are using Google, a Search Engine used by 92.31% of people in the world, based on Sept. 2018 statistics. (2) Google’s Headquarters are very famous because of the colorful bikes present all around the Campus. All the employees have novel working conditions to feel better at work and, as a consequence, more productive for the company : eating for free at the office, having decent parental leave (which is not always the case in other companies in the USA), a place dedicated to sport practise, and also comfortable desks to work. Nowadays, Google is one of the most powerful companies in the world, leading digital everywhere, at anytime. It gives the internet rules thanks to an algorithm which evolves constantly, for all the companies which are willing to appear on the Search Engine.
Google is also at the origin of the autonomous “Google Car”, smartphones such as Pixel 3 or laptops. It is possible to look to the quickest route for a trip thanks to Google Maps, translating a document in chinese with Google Translate or just store your files online with Google Drive is possible.
You probably use social networks to keep contact with your friends or your family. Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook is also located here, in Palo Alto. With 2.2 billion monthly active users, Facebook has also a huge power in Digital Business and is considered as one of the most powerful companies in the world. As an example, just to figure out the potential of Silicon Valley, it is possible to point out other famous companies based there. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976 created Apple, a tremendous company which build and sell laptops, smartphones, tablets or connected watches at the cutting edge of technology.
Each year, Apple organize a keynote around september to present the last products of each ranges. In 2014, more than 20 million people have seen this keynote on the air. (3) Offering unseen movies and series, Netflix is based in Los Gatos, on the southern part of Silicon Valley. Lead by Reed Hastings since 1997, Netflix is used by more than 137 millions subscribers, paying a monthly pass to access all the content. Such as Google, employees have a unique work paced which gives them the possibility to manage their schedule and by more productive all along the day.
Finally, San Francisco and the Silicon Valley house Tesla, a famous electric car brand. Seen as luxury cars for a lot of people, Teslas are offering a rich range of Berlines with a unique design. Some are also autonomous. Plus, there are a lot of parkings in Silicon Valley with charging stations dedicated to Tesla cars. Elon Musk, CEO, is also famous for having lauched a SpaceX rocket in space or to build an underground tunnel in Los Angeles to avoid traffic jams. Almost evolving in an other world, Innovation would rhyme with San Francisco…
